Activism bio (charitable work)
Jane Fonda became known as "Hanoi Jane" because of her vociferous anti-war protests during the Vietnam War. Since that time she has been known not just for her acting roles, but for her aerobics and yoga exercise videos, and her marriage to media mogul, Ted Turner. In her "third act" of life (60 or older), as she calls it, she has devoted her energy toward curbing teenage pregnancy. She made a short documentary about teenaged girls in Nigeria and the need for sex education programs in that impoverished country, which she played for the Secretary General of the U.N., Kofi Annan and 300 female activists and diplomats in June of 2000. She also recently came out publicly about her 23 year battle with bullimia and is speaking to young girls about the dangers and the implications of this disease.
